Servicing & MOT Explained
Here are some of our frequently asked questions regarding our Servicing and MOT. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask using the enquiry form on the right.
Why is a Service good for you?
No one likes the idea of a breakdown, it is stressful and it causes hassle. According to the AA, it is reported that 80% of the breakdowns they attend could have been avoided by regular checks and servicing.
How can a service save me money in the long run?
The cornerstone of any engine service is an oil and oil filter change. By changing the oil and oil filter at the manufacturer's recommended service intervals (or sooner) you will prolong the life of your car's engine. This is because the lubricating properties of engine oil "breakdown" as they protect the engine.
Changing the oil filter is equally important since an oil filter traps any particulates within the oil, picked up from the engine's internals and protects the engine from further damage.
As the oil filter captures more and more particulates it begins to clog up. As a result, the amount of oil your car's oil pump can push through the oil filter can be reduced, potentially causing engine damage.
How can a service reduce the risk of a breakdown?
Another good reason for having your car serviced regularly is to reduce the risk of unnecessary breakdowns. During a manufacturer's service other components, in addition to the oil and oil filter, are replaced or checked. The items that are checked and recommended for replacement at the various service intervals, is determined by the manufacturer, relying on their knowledge and experience of impending failure and wear of certain components. But rest assured, at Phoenix, safety related items such as tyres and brakes are always checked regardless of what your vehicle is booked in for.
Why have a Phoenix service?
From only £99 we offer car servicing, with genuine original equipment parts plus a range of engine oils.
All our technicians are specially qualified to use the latest electronic diagnostic equipment.
Our services are carried out in line with the manufacturer requirements.
Appointments are available 6 days a week.
Any service components fitted by us automatically come with a 12 month guarantee.
Our approved MOT Centres are approved and regularly inspected by the Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA).
What is the difference between an Interim Service and a Full Service?
A Full Service is ideal for an annual maintenance programme for your car, whereas interim servicing is ideal for vehicles used for short, mainly urban journeys or for those who wish to service vehicles doing very high mileage more regularly. An Interim Service every 6 months helps keep your car safe and roadworthy between full services.
What is an Oil Service?
The three part Oil Service from Phoenix is a great supplement between services, when preparing for a long journey or just some peace of mind. It includes:-
Changing engine oil and filter
Checking essential items such as tyres, battery, wipers and lights
Topping up essential levels such as brake fluid, windscreen washer or power steering fluids if required.
The Oil Service is not a substitute for a service and therefore does not give a Service History stamp.
Protecting your investment
Regular servicing reduces the risk of breakdowns and accidents, both of which can be expensive in more ways than one. But there is another way in which regular servicing is a sound investment.More often than not, if your car has a full service history, particularly one from a franchised garage, then it is likely to be worth more if you decide to trade it in or sell it, than a car with incomplete service history.
